Abstract
This article analyzes access to quality jobs among Mexicans of three generations in the United States. Using data from the Current Population Survey for the 1996-2022 period, we construct a multidimensional index that incorporates wage and non-wage indicators. It is highlighted that labor rights linked to social security are the most difficult to attain. Subsequently, a three-level multilevel model is applied that incorporates the interaction between individual, sectoral, and contextual characteristics to identify the relative weight of each level in access to quality jobs. The results indicate that factors associated with the sector and the state context have a significant influence on access to quality jobs, with their impact being more pronounced among first-generation Mexicans. However, beyond state policies and programs, it is the productive structure of the states and the dynamics of occupational segregation that plays a central role in the configuration of their labor trajectories.
