Resumen
Este ensayo indaga cómo el cristianismo y el liberalismo han moldeado la política estadounidense. La persistencia de imaginarios calvinistas permite observar el modo en que el excepciona-lismo estadounidense ha operado como una estructura de sentimiento identitaria que legitima tanto la hegemonía interna como un tipo de imperialismo mesiánico. Desde la colonización puritana, pasando por la fundación nacional, hasta el anticomunismo y el movimiento Nueva Derecha Cristiana de los siglos XX y XXI, la nación se ha autopercibido como un “pueblo elegido”, lo cual refuerza una paradoja esencial: la coexistencia de discursos racistas, conservadores y supremacistas con la retórica liberal de tinte universal.
